Disseminated Nocardia Brasiliensis Infection in an Immunocompromised Patient.

چکیده
A novel therapeutic approach for Nocardia infections is presented. We report the successful treatment of lymphocutaneous nocardiosis with a three-drug combination in an immunocompromised patient with in vitro susceptibility testing used to guide therapy. New therapeutic options are required in some patients due to their failure to respond to the treatment of choice, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX). Success with combination therapy for the treatment of lymphocutaneous nocardiosis with newer antibiotics is being reported more frequently. As the availability of in vitro susceptibility testing increases, directed treatment of susceptible isolates can be implemented.

Disseminated Nocardiosis in an Immunocompromised Child with Unknown Cause
Disseminated nocardiosis (DN), is an infrequent and severe infection due to Nocardia species and defined as infection in two or more discontinuous organs. Most infections occur in the immunocompromised host or in persons with underlying disease. DN occurs rarely in children. In this report, we describe an 11-year-old immune-compromised child with nocardiosis involving the lung, skin, brain a...
متن کاملThe First Korean Case of Disseminated Mycetoma Caused by Nocardia pseudobrasiliensis in a Patient on Long-Term Corticosteroid Therapy for the Treatment of Microscopic Polyangiitis
Nocardia pseudobrasiliensis is predominantly associated with invasive infections in immunocompromised patients. We report a case of disseminated mycetoma caused by N. pseudobrasiliensis in a 57-yr-old woman with microscopic polyangiitis, who was treated for 3 months with corticosteroids. The same organism was isolated from mycetoma cultures on the patient's scalp, right arm, and right leg. The ...
متن کاملMycetoma of the chest wall due to Nocardia brasiliensis.
Sir, Nocardiosis is an uncommon but world-wide infection caused by several species of soil-borne aerobic bacteria belonging to the genus Nocardia (1). Nocardiosis can be divided into two broad categories: disseminated and cutaneous. Disseminated nocardiosis, which accounts for most occurrences of nocardiosis, is most commonly caused by N. asteroides, and typically affects immunocompromised host...
متن کاملNocardia mikamii a Novel Species Causing Disseminated Nocardiosis: A Literature Review of Disseminated Nocardiosis
Nocardia is an uncommon Gram-positive organism. It typically appears as delicate filamentous Gram-positive branching rods. In the United States it was estimated to be approximately 500 to 1000 new cases per year. The organism causes disease in immunocompromised individuals with pulmonary infection representing the most common site of infection. Nocardia mikamii has been a recently isolated path...
متن کاملA fatal pulmonary infection by Nocardia brasiliensis.
The reported case is of primary pulmonary nocardiosis, caused by Nocardia brasiliensis, in a immunocompromised patient, which ended fatally despite appropriate treatment. The partially acid fast filamentous bacterium was predominant on direct examination of the sputum. It was cultured on blood agar, MacConkey agar and by paraffin baiting technique. The bacterium was resistant to cotrimoxazole, ...
